A refurbished Otari cassette tape duplication system, allowing you to record 12 tapes at a time at 16 speed, with both A and B sides being simultaneously recorded. The setup comprises an Otari DP-3 digital master that has had the CD master drives (not the most reliable) converted to use twin SD card for the A and B side ISO files instead and then to provide a digital audio feed to two Otari DP-8-Z4 slaves that each record four tapes at 16 speed on both sides at the same time and also one of the Otari DP-8-C3 masters that can also record four tapes at 16 speed in conjunction with the other to DP-8-Z4 slaves, but it also has a master tape well, so you can insert a master cassette into this tape well and then record up to eleven copies on the other eleven slave tape wells. This will save having to put the master audio onto the SD cards if you already have a tape master to hand, although the record quality will not be quite as good as using the digital source.

This setup would potentially allow the same tape equivalent duplication as 384 single tape decks recording in real time or around 384 x C60 cassette tapes per hour, allowing huge throughput at high quality and with very low wow and flutter levels due to the higher speed of recording. All of the pinch rollers have been replaced with new items in each tape well and each of the twelve tape wells have been calibrated for speed and levels.

For each recording that you need to make you would create the ISO audio file for the A and B sides and load that ISO file onto the relevant SD card (provided). It is then a very straightforward process to start off each recording onto pre-wound audio cassette tapes and you can be duplicating large numbers of cassette tapes at high quality in a short period of time.

We will include all power and connecting cables required as part of the package and will provide a custom instruction guide for duplicating from the SD cards.

The SD conversion is a custom modification that we have made ourselves to improve the reliability of these duplicators.

The equivalent inflation-adjusted purchase price of these four units would have been around £30,000 / $38,000USD new.

When ordering please allow five working days for despatch for us to perform another check and calibration of the system.

The specs from Otari with the original CD drives are as follows:

The Otari DP-3 is a digital master reproducer which reproduces two Master CDs at x8 or x16 speed. Since the DP-3 has two CD-ROM drives, the programs for both sides of cassettes can be reproduced simultaneously.

  • Simultaneous duplication of stereo audio on both tape sides at 8x or 16x speed. C-60 tape is copied in 2 minutes (4 minutes for 8x speed).

  • Menu-driven operation and guide messages on the LCD enable simple operation.

  • Automatic rewind of copy tapes at program end in Auto Copy mode.

  • Connectivity to the Otari DP-8 and DP-4050 series machines.

  • Simultaneous DP-8 or DP-4050 control from the DP-3.

  • LED peak meter display for 4 channels and independent level controls.

  • A-side only mode enables duplication of one side of cassettes.

If you would like to come and see this setup and test it for yourself then you would be very welcome, we are located in Lee-on-the-Solent in Hampshire in the United Kingdom.  Please note that as these machines are used, they do not come with a warranty and are sold as seen, but have proved to be a reliable machine, particularly if you have basic knowledge of cassette deck maintenance for keeping the heads and rollers clean.
